The 28-year-old scored a total of 315.75 points across five dives, placing her seventh in the semi-finals at the Tokyo Aquatics Centre.

Gold medalist in diving at the 2021 World Cup, Pandelela, had scores of 67.50, 59.45, 68.80, 57.60, and 62.40 to keep her in the running for a third straight Olympic medal.

The final, which will include just the top 12 divers from among the semifinalists of 18, will take place later today at 3 pm local time (2 pm Malaysian time).

Quan Hongchan (415.65) and Chen Yuxi (407.75) of China’s adolescent generation placed first and second, respectively, in the semi-finals, with America’s Delaney Schnell (342.75) in third.

On Wednesday (August 4), Pandelela finished 18th in the preliminary round with 284.90 points, while his compatriot Cheong Jun Hoong finished 26th with 251.80 points, missing the top-18 cut and hence not advancing to the semi-finals.

After Pandelela-Leong Mun Yee placed last out of eight dives in the women’s 10m platform synchronised event on July 27 and Nur Dhabitah Sabri finished fourth in the women’s 3m springboard event on Sunday, Pandelela is the only medal candidate from the Malaysian diving squad (Aug 1).

Conclusion

The first Malaysian woman to earn an Olympic medal, Pandelela took home bronze in the women’s 10m platform individual event at the 2012 London Games and silver in the women’s 10m platform synchronised event with Jun Hoong at the 2016 Rio Games.
