Kasumigaseki Country Club in Kasahata, Saitama, Japan, will host the Olympic competition between July 29 and August 1. In 2016, golf was reinstated to the Olympic Games, and Pereira and Long are the first two Red Raider golfers to compete there.

While Long will be competing for Team Germany, Pereira will be representing Chile after earning his PGA Tour card with three wins on the Korn Ferry Tour.

From 2015 to 2018, Long was a member of the Red Raiders’ golf team, and in 2017, he won the Carmel Cup by shooting a 54-hole tournament record of 197 and a second-round score of 61 at Pebble Beach to set a new course record.

Long is a native of Mannheim, Germany and a current participant on the European Challenge Tour. Awarded Academic All-Big 12 and GCAA All-Academic Team honours for many years.

Before going pro, Pereira played for Texas Tech in the 2014–15 season.

The native of Santiago, Chile won the BMW Charity Pro-Am, REX Hospital Open, and Country Club de Bogota Championship on the Korn Ferry Tour this season, earning him a Three-Victory Promotion to the PGA Tour.

After finishing his first year at Texas Tech with a 72.2 stroke average, Pereira shot 9 under par to finish in eighth place at the Big 12 Tournament in Tulsa, earning him a spot on the tournament’s All-Tournament Team.

The Olympic Golf Tournament is a 72-hole, four-day event involving 60 golfers who qualify by placing in the top 100 in the world rankings maintained by the International Golf Federation.

U.S. golfers Henrik Stenson and Matt Kuchar finished second and third, respectively, to medal in Rio.
