As the day’s first representative, Gebbie swam the men’s 100-meter freestyle in a national record time of 49.64 seconds, placing fifth in heat 5.

His time of 49.94 seconds from the 2019 FINA World Championships was easily surpassed.

Gebbie beat over Singaporean swimming prodigy Joseph Schooling, who finished sixth with a time of 49.84 seconds.

The Filipino-New Zealander tied Schooling’s silver medal performance in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games.

However, neither Gebbie nor Schooling advanced to the semifinals in the men’s 100-meter freestyle, as they finished 36th and 39th, respectively, out of a total of 70 competitors.

On Friday, July 30 at 6 p.m. Philippine time, Gebbie will compete again in the men’s 50-meter freestyle.

While competing with China’s Zhang Yufei for the lead in the women’s 200-meter butterfly, Rule clocked in at a time of 2 minutes and 12.23 seconds in heat 3.

On Wednesday, July 28 at 9:57 am, Philippine time, she finished in 15th place, narrowly missing the cut for the semifinals.

The Filipino-American swimmer’s 2:09.58 from the 2020 TYR Pro Swim Series in Des Moines, Iowa, remains the American record for the women’s 200-meter butterfly.
